Volleyball Links

Do you consider yourself a volleyball player or enthusiast?  If yes, then you should be familiar with the following organizations:

USA Volleyball (USAV) is the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of volleyball in the United States and is recognized as such by the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

The Great Lakes Region includes Illinois - from the Springfield area to the south, Wisconsin border to the north, Indiana border to the east and the Iowa border to the west.

In 2008, the FIVB consists of 220 affiliated Federations and governs, manages and promotes all forms of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball worldwide through tournaments such as the FIVB World Championships, FIVB World League, FIVB World Grand Prix, SWATCH FIVB World Tour, FIVB World Cup, FIVB Grand Champions Cup, FIVB Junior and Youth tournaments and, of course, the Olympics

AVP, Inc. is a leading lifestyle sports entertainment company focused on the production, marketing and distribution of professional beach volleyball events worldwide. One of the fastest growing entities in the sports world, the AVP operates two of the industry's most prominent national touring series, the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour (1983) and the AVP Hot Winter Nights Indoor Tour (launched in 2008).

Objective of the Team Blog

The purpose of the team blog is to have a central location where the coaching staff can post ideas, documents, notes, pictures, etc… which players and parents can use as reference and review at their leisure in order to learn more about the game of volleyball.  We'll cover volleyball-related topics such as offensive and defensive schemes, terminology, and fitness.

For example, the team will run a 6-2 offense this season.  The question that players ask the most is why can’t we do a 5-1 or 4-2?  The question that parents ask the most is what exactly is a 6-2?  Instead of taking up valuable practice time to explain granular details of the 6-2 as well as discuss advantages and disadvantages of the system we can blog the topic at a leisurely pace.

Note:  Parent and player concerns, issues, and time-of-the-essence matters should not be discussed in an online forum.  Face-to-face, phone, or email are the appropriate means for those cases.
